New Blog and Other Stuff, maybe

I started a new one which for now will be my site http://www.gotzeus.com. I just changed it so that domain name may not actually go there yet. If it doesn't, this one will work: http://www.cs.grinnell.edu/~lewismic/blog/.

I decided to change because I have more control with this new type of engine and also I get free hosting on the Math servers now which is amazing, all sorts of features and space for free. More to come...

Bikes

It's such a nice day outside. 57 degrees. Adam, Kelsey, and I took three of the new campus bikes for a ride downtown. It was sweet. Campus bikes are awesome. Big and yellow and vintage as shit. They practically have bumpers. Tight. I think tonight we're going to get high and ride some bikes. And maybe die. Cars. I almost got hit by a car riding downtown. My fault. I didn't look while crossing the road. But I skidded because they have pedal breaks. It was sweet. Pedal breaks are so elementary school. I love it.

Music

It looks like this semester is going to be great for music at grinnell. We're having some great bands this time and I'm really beginning to wonder how much pot they had to sell to make all that damn money. Oh wait, we have a huge endowment that we don't use but decide to raise tuition anyway. Oh yeah. Bastards...

Anyway, Happy Apple, a great jazz trio, is coming. The books are coming. And... guess what? Built to Spill is now officially booked, courtesy of my dear friend Kelsey. She noticed that they were going to be in Chicago this spring, emailed concerts and they hooked it up. So that's fantastic. Also, Iron and Wine is going to be in Chicago sometime in April, so maybe I could get there to see that? That would be fun. We did have Dead Prez booked, which is weird because they really hate whitey and there's a lot of whitey in Iowa, I guess that's why they cancelled. Oh, and I forgot, Cake is coming too. That's right, aggressively mediocre Cake. How can you hate Cake? You can't, that's how. Same goes for fans, there are no diehard Cake fans, just people that go to Cake concerts because Cake is pretty cool. So, it should be an entertaining semester.

My sister is engaged. The wedding will be October 15th in Georgia. Man, I did not see that one coming. Oh well, I'm happy for her and will definitely be attending the wedding, and apparently playing a role? Cool. I love cake. The frosted kind that is. You probably thought I went back on what I said earlier, didn't you? No, I mean the non-capitalized type of cake. See: cake = delicious, Cake = probably not delicious.

Another Update

I've been reading like a mad man lately. And I'm not talking reading for school, though I do have some of that, I'm talking pleasure reading. I finished a new book by Chip Kidd that Sarah got me in like two days. That was a damn good book. Interestingly, Kidd designed the cover of Love in the Time of Cholera. Just a little trivia. Then I read some Bukowski. Man that guy loves the sex. Now in honor of Hunter Thompson I am on to Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test. Sure, I could read something more appropriate in honor of him, but this is good enough. I watched Fear and Loathing like twice in the past week if that helps.

Kelsey, Grace, and Max went to see Modest Mouse in Iowa City last week. I was supposed to go but I gave up my ticket to Grace because she is more hardcore than I am. They picked up some fun stuff there that you can't get in grinnell. So we used that this weekend to excess. Messed up the room while Nick was gone, ate all of his food too. He wasn't happy about that. He deserved it though. Bastard.

I guess I find out about this research thing soon. Before I go home for Spring break, maybe? Not sure. If I do get that, it looks like I will spend a week with Sarah and her family on the Oregon coast, a week at home, and maybe the other week with my east coast grinnell friends? This girl has been trying to get together an east coast tour including Maryland, New Jersey, New York, and Boston, but I'm not sure if that will. Also talks of a DMB concert have been going around.

Update

Ok, I suppose I should update now. I just really have not felt like doing it lately. Oh well.

Let's see what has happened so far in the semester? Things are going well. I love my courses. I think I'm doing well in them. I am kickin the shit out of computer science. It feels so good to be able to take a course in something you're truly interested in. On a related note, I'm probably going to do research at Grinnell this summer with a CS prof. It kind of sucks because if I get to go home at all it will be for like a week. But it's something that I would be very stupid to pass up. I get paid a decent amount of money, get some experience, and four credits. I get like three weeks during the summer that I think I can use whenever I want. I'll at least use one to go see Sarah in Walla Walla, maybe more, we'll see what happens. So, that's exciting.

I'm taking drumset lessons now. The teacher is great. Really knows what he's talking about. So I get to use the practice room basically whenever I want. It's a good way to relieve stress. What else? I'm working an ok amount. About 6 hours a week. Not too bad. I hear Cake is going to play here. That'll be sweet. It looks like I'll just be coming home for spring break. I wanted to do an alt break but my parents say I need to come home for something or other. Tonight Sarah and I are celebrating valentines day. She's cooking me chinese food. Sweet. I'm going to try to bake brownies.

So we had the first nationally televised div. 3 basketball game like last week. That was big news. We lost by a point. I think we suck this year. We're not a big sporting school. We just read and smoke. That's all we're good at. If those were sports we'd kick ass every year. I went to a talk on gay marriage given by a prof and an alum with the ACLU yesterday. That was cool. Well, I really doubt that's all I've done. But I can't remember anything now.

Gallery

I need to do something different with my gallery. I just reorganized the pictures on my computer so I can't really keep updating it in the same manner. Maybe I'll take down all of the old pictures (2002 and below). Does anyone even care about those? I don't think so. I'll have plenty of time to think about it.
