Status Knife

I got the flu shot today. Not sure why, I have no problem with the flu. Probably because it was free and I like free things slightly more than I like the flu. Not to belittle my love for illness. So there's a debate tonight that practically all of American will/should be watching. The NYTimes has a pretty good preview on their frontpage. It's basically an analysis of the two candidates past debating styles and how they might matchup together. Also, they brag that they'll have some great analysis after the debate, looks like the times is the place to be.

My roommate is sleeping now, he sleeps too much. I think I may kill him in his sleep with the hi-lighter that doubles as a syringe that I got for bearing the flu shot or possibly my status knife.

Sorry

Yeah sorry about not posting for a while. Yes, I've been busy and I don't like spending my free time on a computer. Computer's are bastards. Anyway, if you haven't heard I got a job as a User Consultant Trainee (IT guy) and I start training saturday. The money is good, highest paying job on campus, and it should provide for excellent experience.

I'm coming back to Cumberland October 16 - 24, so if you're in town talk to me. I don't think many people are on break that week but I can hang with my FSU friends.

Dntel

Dntel is a really amazing band. If you've heard Postal Service, and I think most people have, then you've heard Dntel, basically. I've had a couple of Dntel's albums, Life is Full of Possibilities and The Dream of Evan and Chan, but recently I picked them up again and I think Life is Full of Possibilities is a masterpiece. At least download it or some songs. If you like Postal Service check out The Dream of Evan and Chan, that's where it all started.

Bees

I went to the local Farmers Market this afternoon. What a hick thing of me to do. I'm so Mid-Western. I got a honey comb, that's all. The lady sold me on it big time, telling me all of the things I could do with it. Put it on toast, pancakes, other bread-based food. Eat it whole. Amazing. I enjoy eating the homes of small bugs, especially ones that can sting.

Iowa City

Yesterday I went with Free the Planet to Iowa City. We went petitioning to get Ford to increases demand of its hybrid SUV, as well as its other alternative non gas-guzzling models. Iowa City is about an hour from Grinnell and I can definitly see myself escaping to there for a few weekends. It's a nice place, it has that quaint downtown sort of feel. No really large buildings just medium sized brick shops. They seem to have a nice selection of food there as well as very nice looking ladies from the University of Iowa. It's a nice change of pace.

Site

Most of the site is up now, though not updated, but the pictures are posing a large problem. I'll probably have to find a different way to present them, so that may be a few days.

web site

Urged on by Allison, I just made the call to get my personal website set up. So it should definitly happen this weekend.

Goya

Went to the Goya exhibition today at the college fine arts center. It's pretty crazy that such a small school can pull in Goya. It was a collection of about 80 of his "Disasters of War" sketchings. Wiseman would be so proud. It was rather shocking. I remember studying them last year and thinking they were pretty gruesome but, obviously, when seeing them in reality it brings another level. I shall go back again soon.

Loose and Ready

Here are a few pictures from our pre-gaming the pre-game to Loose and Ready, our big hal party. It is a very bad idea to drink as much vodka as I did that night. I would not advise it. Some of them are my friends doing extremely cliche drinking poses but I swear they're not that unoriginal when sober.

I Just Stapled My Finger

I feel much much better this morning. I was sick last night if you haven't been following and it got much worse before I got to bed. However, I woke up this morning surprisingly refreshed. Sleep really is a cure-all for me.

I'm fine.

Iowan Lesbians

Last night was an adventure. A few friends and I went to party with some bonafide Iowans. Kelsey, one of my floormates lives about an hour and a half away from Grinnell, so she took us to her hood and we partied with country folk.

On the way there, she got ticketed for speeding, however, Max flipped off the cop. By the way, cops do NOT like that.

When the partying commenced I realized how lucky Kelsey is that she turned out normal. Her friends could not be more different from her. They are (for the most part) extremely obnoxious. After the partying, which actually isn't correct terminology because they continued until morning, we slept in a tent with some lesbians. And I'm not talking porn lesbians, I'm talking actual Home Depot lesbians. It was interesting.

In the morning we went to her mom's house to pick up a mini-fridge. I'm pretty sure her mom thinks that we're all the worst people. When we got there we forgot that there were vulgarities written in the dust covering her car. Parents don't like that. Then, her mom found the ticket, also bad.

Overall it was a good experience, but I'm kind of sick now. I need to read.

I have no problems with playing drinking games to Bush's speech but when the words are freedom, terror, god, 9/11, america, and other random ones made up during the speech, it gets a little out of hand. Especially if hard liquer is all you have.

Anyway, last night due to the previously mentioned game another game was born - hallway tennis. Tonight is "Loose and Ready" our big hall party. Should be fun. Hall tennis will be played.

Nuke the Whales

Last night I went to a Free the Planet meeting at one of the campus's many coffee houses. Until now I have generally not been involved in any college groups. I think this is a good philosophy because I want to devote all of the time that I can to getting off on the right foot academically. However, lately I've been finishing my work rather early and am ahead of my homework by a couple days, so I think I'll try to get slightly involved in some campus clubs. I'm already a member of the campus democrats but I don't do much with them, in fact I've only been to one meeting. I don't really like the pres. I mainly went to Free the Planet because a friend on my floor is pretty involved in it. We'll see where it goes.
